Admission

I got the following counsel from my Dove chocolate wrapper today:

As much as I most often feel no desire to get jiggy or anything like unto it, every once in a while, if only briefly, I wish I wanted to. I think it would be fun to do what my wrapper is telling me to do.

"Someday, I'll..."

...know what I want from life.

...know what I want to be when I grow up.

...have the money to support my expensive tastes and to give what I want.

...have a "real" job--one that is satisfying and fulfilling.

...know whether our irreconcilable differences were truly irreconcilable.

...know what it's like to share all of myself with someone.

...be buff.

...know what it takes to get buff, and I may or may not want to do it.

...understand myself more fully.

...find a tennis buddy again.

...look back at yesterday or today and laugh.

...eat Peruvian food in Peru.

...know whether there are answers to the "mysteries"...or I'll know nothing.

...break down the facades, mine and other people's.

...visit every continent.

...be a better person.

...second-guess myself less.

...know that I've left society better than I found it.

...be accomplished at something.

...stop procrastinating.

The Beginning of a Beautiful Relationship

I've been playing with my new toy and giggling like a giddy school girl the whole way. I am now the fortunate owner of a very sexy Canon EOS Rebel XSi. And I can tell this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship. I've been wanting a camera like this for....well, years, but I could never justify the expense. Until recently. I finally decided the cost was well worth it, and it was time to take a step up and purchase a really good camera, and I braced myself for the expenditure but was ready to bite the bullet. Then, I had some unexpected assistance in the form of parental generosity for their underpaid son, and now I'm trying to think of other things I should've justified the expense of long ago. *wink* No, seriously, many, many thanks. The assistance enabled me to get the camera I really wanted.

I don't have good sample images to post yet, just test shots of Javier's place or my aquarium or bookshelf, but I'm sure I'll have some before long. Like any good relationship, there is some warming up and learning and meshing to be done privately before taking it more public. We need to learn to work together. Give and take. I want the camera to do one thing, but I need to learn what I need to do for the camera to be able to do that. I've gotta learn how to push just the right buttons at just the right times. Oh my, the places I could go with this analogy.

Hm, I think I've just found my newest substitute for a real relationship. Now we just need "our song". I'm Looking Through You, perhaps? Maybe it's too early to be picking our song. I shouldn't be talking so openly about our new relationship until things blossom more, but I can't help but share my excitement! I think this one's a winner for the long haul, I really do. Wish me luck, I'm crossing my fingers with this one...

New Old Posts

Once again, I've posted a bunch of old notes and things I'd written in Facebook, and I posted them under the dates they were originally posted, not today's date, so you'll have to hunt through the history if you want to find them. I wasn't going to post them because they were maybe more personal thoughts and had little to do with being Nomadic, but for now, I think I'm going to make this an all-around blog, not just travels and random experiences, but thoughts and whatnot as well. Or maybe I'll make another blog for my heady ramblings an call it "Clinically Analytical" or something. Yes, hm... Well, for now I'll just keep the one blog. I think that brings my blog up to date.

Needing To Be With Someone Who Truly Cares

...but not knowing how to truly know whether most people do, including friends. Words are useless in these times. Words mean nothing. Actions mean little. Only true consistency and familiarity matters in moments like this, when I just need to be reminded that someone who truly knows me truly cares. About me. With all my frailties. They don't have to coddle me. It's just nice when they esteem me as someone they love and show some sensitivity when I'm feeling really alone.

Tonight, all I want is to talk with someone I know cares. Someone I know I trust, and with good reason. Someone who understands me, or at least respects me in more than a token way but in a way that reflects more on their character than on my supposed merits. But they're all asleep, of course, or live elsewhere. Mostly both.

I'm left unable to sleep, with nobody to vent to except my journal. So journal it is.

Songs I Can't Hear Without Thinking About Someone

I listen to music a lot. I don't have a huge music collection, but I have a fair amount. I often use music to reflect or magnify my mood. Or to calm down at night. Or whatever. I just like music, so I often have it around.

Some songs have memories and people attached to them so strongly that I cannot hear the song without thinking of them. I've come up with a list of some such songs. There are a lot more songs that sometimes make me think of people or events, but for this list, I'm talking about such strong associations that I normally can not hear the song without thinking of a particular person and/or memory, at least briefly. Some of them are amusing. Some are tender. Some are bittersweet. Most make me smile regardless.

I'll probably think of more as time goes by and update this entry. I'm not going to specify whom these songs make me think of. Most of you will probably know which songs are yours. Any that are grouped together refer to the same person. In a couple of cases, the person the song reminds me of may not even know or remember the song, but it's connected nonetheless. In one case, the person I'm reminded of has passed away. So without further ado (read "longwindedness"), here are some of the culprits which bring people to mind without fail:

For Good, from Wicked

Unwritten Letter, Vienna Teng

Una Notte a Napoli, Pink Martini
As Long As You're Mine, from Wicked
Samson, Regina Spektor

Sexual Healing, Marvin Gaye

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

Lazybones, Harry Connick, Jr.
Just Like Me, Harry Connick, Jr.

Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel), Billy Joel

Lilly, Pink Martini

Popular, from Wicked
Wind It Up, Gwen Stefani

You Are My Sunshine

I Wonder When He Comes Again

Agony, from Into the Woods

The Other Hours, Harry Connick, Jr.
