On the way from northern Idaho back to Utah, we stopped in Idaho Falls for the night. I'd heard Idaho Falls's
Melaleuca's Independence Day fireworks show, part of a larger
Freedom Celebration, is supposedly one of the
best in the nation, but I'd never seen it. It lasted about a half hour, choreographed to music and spoken word reminding listeners of the history of our nation and the significance of the holiday, broadcast on a local radio station. The pace and intensity of the fireworks matched the music, and I particularly remember seeing green fireworks followed by red ones during
What a Wonderful World, performed by Louis Armstrong, where he says, "trees of green, red roses too..." It was a good show, and I'm glad I finally got to see it. ...and practice taking pictures of fireworks for the first time. Below is a small sample of the way-overly-abundant results.

Pretty amazing pictures!
I can't believe you were in IF. I live just one mile north of the fireworks show. This was this first time in years that we missed the show. I was in SLC.
Awesome pictures. You are a great photographer!
These shots were awesome. You know, I don't think I had ever before realized how much fireworks resemble deep sea creatures before. Do you see what I mean? Spiky purple sea urchins and also all the whispy creatures that flit in and out of the lights of the cameras attached to the deep sea submarines? I don't think I will ever see fireworks the same again. Thanks for posting these beautiful pictures, Jota. Fun.
Jay you have taken some amazing photos, capturing instances that tell a full story just with one snap-shot. I browsed through your other posts and was pleasently surprised to see pictures of the Palouse and it brought back all of the wonderful memories from living there. Thanks for the trip down memorie lane :) Great stuff. I'm excited to see more of your work.
I hate to say I told you so, but . . . and I'm so jealous! Didn't think about Melaleuca at all, did ya? So maybe it IS a freedom celebration that Meleleuca just HAPPENS to fund? ;-D
Glad you finally got to experience it!
