Snowshoeing At Mill Creek

Last Saturday, I went snowshoeing with my buddy Stephen in Salt Lake. We rented snowshoes from REI ($10/pair) and bought Camelbacks on clearance for way cheap ($22.42, which was 50% off of the usual price, which was supposedly marked down from $70 retail). After lunch at a quick 'n cheap Mexican dive (whose idea was that?), we filled up my car with gas, our Camelbacks with water, and headed up Big Cottonwood Canyon, stopping at Mill Creek D trailhead. After following the trail a ways, we followed some tracks more directly up the mountainside. Good conversation. Good scenery. Good calf workout. Frick. Mediocre photo ops, but I snapped a few shots anyway. On the way down, we discovered the snow was GREAT for snowballs. Naturally, this opportunity could not be passed up. Hence the last two pics.

Maybe I'll post about my other weekend goings on later, but for now, my warm, comfy bed is calling sweetly, and I cannot resist longer.

I laugh and find great amusement from your quirky and witty blogs. FYI -- your snowy hike may not have offered great photo ops, but, as usual, you've created art from mundane subject matter! Glad you're blogging again for those of us for whom you provide levity and sometimes thought-provoking commentary!

Jota, I must agree with the previous comment; you really do make magic with whatever you seem to come across. I particularly thought your first shot (with the pinetree) was stunningly perfect.

It's been a long time, but I know what you mean about the calf-muscle-snowshoeing experience. Can you imagine how much worse it would be if you didn't exercise so often?

Personally, I love to photograph almost anything, especially snowscapes and all things frosted over (including cakes.) You took some excellent shots here, sir.

JJ, you make me totally wish I was more outdoorsy. That looks like it was fun!
