Fuzzy-Feathered Family

On my way to work this morning, I was driving off the base of the mountain along the long stretch of industrial road out to the I-15 freeway, and as I approached one of the few intersecting roads which approaches from the right, I couldn't help but notice a small group politely approaching the intersection, neatly following the road. As I approached, I could see this group consisted of two large geese and a whole bunch of little puffy ones.

The large ones were poking their heads up in the air, observing all they could to keep the little ones safe, flanking them on either side. I was just a little concerned for this family and the possibility that one of the cute little puffy ones might end up flatter and less cute. They were so politely waiting for traffic to clear up enough to cross. As I approached, I couldn't help but slow down a bit and have an "aw" moment at all the confused, waddling little mustard-colored fuzzballs huddled together in jumping-bean-like anticipation. If I hadn't been on the way to work, I probably would have pulled over and taken pictures...and might have even tried to grab one and toss it like a little beach ball. They were plump.

As I drove on, I just hoped they'd find a good clearing and get across safely to the...open...barren...train field...wait, where the @#$% did they think they were headed, anyway?
