Something(s) to Like About Where I Live

So, the other night, I was thinking about possible date-like activities to do in this area, which got me thinking about things to do around here in general with groups of friends, and a flood of ideas came to mind. Just when I thought the ideas were exhausted, another rush of related ideas would come to mind. Many ideas, especially the first, more "date"-like ideas, are generic and could be done almost anywhere. But some more uniquely Utah ideas came out later, and what impressed me was how easy it was to think of ideas easily realized nearby, including easy weekend trips.

Following are some activities I came up with which I thought sounded like a good time or which already have fond memories attached:

- Go to a dollar movie
- Go out to eat at an obscure little international restaurant
- Bum around Moab
- Cook dinner/dessert together
- Do homework/other work together that has to be done but is more pleasant to do with good company
- Go to the trampoline place (a building full of trampolines and padded walls)
- Corn maze
- Hike to the "Y"
- Midnight run to Seven Peaks
- Browse a bookstore, grab hot chocolate or steamers
- Go running in the crisp morning air
- Long weekend to Cali
- Go to the Living Planet Aquarium
- See a concert (Park City, In The Venue, Velour, Kingsbury Hall, wherever)
- Peruse Park City, check out the art galleries, grab some good food, take in the scenery
- Rent a house boat for a weekend on Lake Powell
- Four-wheeling on Mt. Tabby
- Hiking Zion
- Open mic night at the local dive
- High-quality choir/orchestra/musical performances every week
- Drive through the mountains/canyons
- Camp at Arches, tour Canyonlands
- Delicate Arch at sunrise
- Float the Colorado
- Sneak into a casino pool in Mesquite
- Waterskiing on Lake Mohave
- Crappy culture safari in Vegas
- Explore the caves at Timp
- Camping in Yellowstone/Grand Teton Nat'l Parks
- Bike the canyons
- Watch the sun set on the mountains
- Float the mighty Provo
- Visit the Great Salt Lake and marvel at the wondrous smells
- Hang Gliding at Thanksgiving Point
- Skiing at any of the many resorts within an hour
- Hiking and relaxing at a cabin at Sundance in winter
- Curling up in a warm blanket (preferably shared) with hot cocoa/cider while enjoying a fire and listening to the cold, autumn rain or watching the gentle fall of snowflakes outside the window by moonlight
...you get the picture. There's a thing or two to like about this area, I suppose. I admit that reluctantly, of course...
